Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Part 2 – Harry Potter Party Food and Drinking Game

Harry Potter Party Food Cauldron Cakes

26th June marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone! This is Part 2 of my two-part series of Harry Potter party inspiration from my birthday party! Below is all my Harry Potter Party food; to find out what I did for my invitations and decor click here! For more… read below!

Food labels

I had a lot of ideas for Harry Potter party food and wanted to make sure that people knew what they were called! As with all aspects of my themed parties, everything was going to be a reference: from the food to the wall decor, the drinks to the games. First off I got some mini-metal keys, black ribbon and printed out some labels onto parchment style paper…

I did a quick search for food mentioned in the books and changed it to a party style theme! Here are just a few of the items I made and how they came about:

Nosebleed Nougat – Mars bars sliced horizontally through the middle then melted back together with red chocolate!

Sherbet Lemons (or, the password to Dumbledore’s office)! Harry Potter Party Food Lemon Sherbet

I bought a Treacle Tart (fresh from the trolley, dears!) which is available in most supermarkets!

Pesky Pesto-monies! Inspired by Lockhart, these are pesto and parmesan “pixie” twists

Cauldron Cakes (image up top!) are self-explanatory really! I ended up buying a cake mix and using green chocolate melts with green glitter for the “bubbling” contents! I think they turned out really well, what do you think?

Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and Chocolate Frogs – bought directly from the HP Studios (Check out my previous post reviewing these Harry Potter Sweets!)

Pumpkinless pasties – Okay, I cheated here a little. I hate pumpkin, so these were just normal Cornish/ Cheese and Onion pasties!

Acid Pops (originally I covered these sour lollipops in popping candy but it refused to stop popping! so I served them without).

And the drinks!

After researching multiple ways of making butterbeer, I realised the best was just creme soda, whipped cream and warm caramel sauce! (of course, served in Butterbeer glasses). However I didn’t quite manage to do this in time with all the other things going on! If you have tried and tested a method, I’d love to know what it was!

I’m going to class these as drinks as they are technically alcoholic: Polyjuice Jellies!
These were Malibu and Lime, Orange and Bacardi and Chambord and Strawberry (1 jelly cube pack, 1/2 pint hot water to dissolve, 1/4 pint cold water and 1/4 pint alcoholic spirit!)

My friend kindly made some Hogwarts House Cocktails! Recipes are as below, all of which were blended with ice;
Gryffindor Red – Fresh Strawberries, White Rum, Sugar Syrup, Lemonade
Slytherin Green – Creme de Menthe, Rum, Lime Juice, Sugar Syrup, Lemonade
Hufflepuff Yellow – Rum, Pineapple Juice, Lime Juice, Triple Sec, Lemonade
Ravenclaw Blue – Coconut Rum, Lime Juice, Coconut Juice, Blue curaçao, Raspberry Sours, Lemonade (for added froth, add coconut cream but it will separate!)

Harry Potter Drinking Game

Being responsible adults (most of the time), we were of course drinking. So I decided to make one of my infamous themed drinking games, this time centred around Harry Potter.

This comprised of around 52 cards (so a normal pack amount) which each had an instruction related to that character. It was HILARIOUS and SO much fun – would definitely play this again!

Below are just a few examples of the rules! Please do contact me on amy@writingintotheether.com should you want a copy of the full set! Here are just a few examples:

Hope altogether this post and my previous one about invites and decor have helped to inspire your Harry Potter party!

Please share pictures of your parties and food with me! I’d love to see!

Everything about this was so good, even for someone who’s not massively into Harry Potter ^.^
I think my favourite food was the twists – they were yummy 🙂
And the drinking game was super fun! xx

This is just way too cool! I love the delicious pictures, and the cupcakes look so good! It is crazy how its already been 20 years yet when I read the books I feel like I haven’t aged along with the characters.
