Geeking Out Loud: My Most Anticipated New Movies 2019

2019 is set to be a big year for movies! Checking out what’s coming up I thought I’d pick my selection of my most anticipated movies of the year. Some of these I am really worried about! I just don’t see how they can be good, but I hope they are!

Lego Movie 2 “The Second Part” – February 2019

HOW could you follow the success for the first Lego movie? Well, with a Batman Sequel, of course. But then, to follow that? Some big (tiny plastic) boots to fill, my friends. After watching the trailer, I am a little worried… But I am sure it’ll be… Awesome?

This is my exact concerned-face.

Captain Marvel – March 2019

I am really hyped for this one – after the madness of Avengers: Infinity War I really want to hear about this potential saviour that could help balance the world out again.  Captain Marvel herself is played by Brie Larson who I LOVED in Scott Pilgrim – can’t wait to see her in something new! The first look trailer was epic (even more so than the actual trailer)- can’t wait to see another bad-ass female superhero on our screens!

Shazam! – April 2019

I’ve kinda stopped getting my hopes up now about DC movies. Sometimes I give them the benefit of the doubt but mostly I just resign myself to the fact that nothing other than Batman (mostly because of the villains) is anywhere close to Marvel’s superiority. I saw the trailer to Shazam! and I am not sure what to make of it? I really enjoyed Superhero satire like Super or KickAss – will this be…okay?

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu – May 2019

This has really split opinions across the internet. Do we love the idea, or do we hate it? Personally, I can’t wait! I was all set to be a real critic – I mean, a live-action Pokemon movie? I didn’t ever think it should happen! But with the genius of Ryan Reynolds and the sheer cuteness involved, what’s not to love?

Avengers: End Game – May 2019

With Captain Marvel on the scene, the playing field seems a bit more even but I have literally no idea what is going to happen in the next Avengers movie! I am so excited for this! I want it all to be wrapped up in a nice little bow; because the good guys are going to win obviously. Right? RIGHT?!

Toy Story 4 – June 2019

I am REALLY worried about this one. Why the hell would they make a fourth? Surely the third one wrapped it all up nicely. It was the throwback we all needed as children who had then grown up and gone on to college etc and saying goodbye to our favourite toys. Why are they doing this to us? Where are they going to take it now? I’m sorry… did I hear that right? A talking spork…

Dark Phoenix – June 2019

Jean Gray Origin Story!!! Whoop! I love the newer X-Men movies, not gonna lie. I think the earlier generations and backstories are epic and particularly love time travel, so Days of Future Past was great for me. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with Jean (who I didn’t particularly like in the original X-Men Trilogy!)

Artemis Fowl – August 2019

Okay, I have to say, I’m kinda worried about this one! I loved the books as a kid (well, the first few anyway) and to see it all Disney-fied might put me off as I always thought they were quite gritty books. It’s the same kind of concern I have as when they released Ready Player One onto the big screen. I really don’t want to see this classic series turned into Spy Kids 2. Eek.

So there you have it! My most anticipated movies so far for 2019! These are all ones where there at least teaser trailers for reference but, all in all I think 2019 is set to be a good / controversial year for movies!

What can’t you wait to see from the new movies 2019?

  1. This is a great list. I’ve been trying to compile one myself over the last few days, and I almost left out Shazam so thank you so much for reminding me!! Probably looking forward to that, Captain Marvel and Avengers the most out of these. It’s going to be a great year for movies I feel!
