Feminism and Science: “Women In Science” and “A Galaxy of Her Own” Book Review

I wanted to share with you, two amazing books I was gifted. As some of you may know from my previous collaboration infographic, I am a feminist. (Not an activist of any kind, but I do believe in equality between all genders, everywhere. Simple as.) These two books were gifted to me for which I am very thankful. Feminism AND Science? Any books that celebrate the achievements of women are always welcome in my library!

A Geek’s Guide: 5 Ways Dungeons and Dragons can Change your Life

I’m relatively new to table-top role play games. I’ve always loved board games, and branched out into some casual strategy games recently with a group of friends. We now meet almost weekly to pursue our Dungeons and Dragons dream! I can see myself playing this for years to come; it’s so addictive and I would go as far to say that it’s actually changed my life for the better. Here’s how…
Harry Potter Discussion Group Love Potions

Muggle Musings: How Important is Love in the Harry Potter books?

At our monthly Harry Potter Discussion Group, we always come up with loads of brilliant theories and discussions centred around a particular theme in Harry Potter. I wanted to start to use some of this for my blog posts, because it’s always super interesting and I rarely share them!

Muggle Musings started in February of this year, and since then there have been so many brilliant insights and anecdotes I never would have thought of myself. I’ve already done a little highlights post about some of our more outrageous claims but I wanted to be more focused and show just how deep we delve into the books themselves!

Geeking Out Loud: The Evolution of Sci-Fi Movies

I’ve always loved Sci-Fi but I never feel like I have seen enough! I wanted to explore as much as possible, from the first Sci-Fi Movie “Le Voyage Dans Le Lune” (1902), right through to the latest releases and sub-genres that have expanded throughout the years. Because, Sci-Fi always makes us question;

Where will science take us? What’s going to happen to us? What’s NEXT?

I’ve already considered what makes a good Sci-Fi story, and so I started doing a little research into the release dates of movies (and some extra reading). I realised that there is a pattern in what’s happening in society and science, and the types of movies that became popular at the time.

A Geek’s Guide: Where to Start with Geeky Board Games

So many of us want to break into more nerdy card games and geeky board games, but where to start? I am quite lucky in that I have a great group of friends who introduced me into this world of geeky board games and card games! Sometimes you can’t commit enough time to a full Dungeons and Dragons campaign (although I did for the first time this week and it was AMAZING). Sometimes an awfully complicated strategy game can also take hours to set up.

Sometimes you just need to start small, and aim high.

Why Harry Potter is Incompetent: The Musings of Muggles

This month marked the 6th ever Muggle Musings (the Harry Potter Discussion Group I host)… and it’s been going well so far! During the last 6 meetings, we’ve discussed Harry Potter himself, Supporting Characters, Evil Characters, Magical Creatures, Hogwarts Teachers and Muggle-Wizard relations.

We come up with a million different theories about the wizarding world in every meeting and so I thought I’d pick out just a few of the highlights, seeing as it’s Harry Potter’s Birthday!

Where to start with Anime Part 1: The Dark and Dramatic

I can’t pretend that I am a connoisseur of anime, but I feel like I’ve at least watched enough (about 30 or so) different anime movies and shows to give you an insight into where to start with anime.

Anime is a style rather than a genre and so many people seem to mistake anime as a genre of movie rather than just a form. Just like other styles, it all depends on your mood as to what you can cope with or feel like watching – whether it be action, romance or something entirely different. Part 1 below is all about the dramatic or the dark anime, for those in the mood for action!

Geeking Out Loud: My Top 9 Favourite Games of All Time (Up ’til Now)

Some people like going out-out to break free from life. Some bake cakes, go hiking, scream into the void, play guitar… For me, my go-to outlets have always been games. They have influenced me, shaped my character, been an escape when I had nothing else… Some have become a part of me (literally) and inspired me to create awesome things. But then again, some have just blissfully wasted my precious life.

So here is my definitive list: my favourite games to date and why I love them.
